Puppet Friendly City
Located between Caen and Deauville, in Normandy (France), Dives-sur-Mer is a charming port city of nearly 6,000 inhabitants with multiple assets.
With one of the richest historical heritages of the Pays d’Auge, with seven monuments classified or registered in the inventory of historical monuments, it is also an exceptional tourist site between land and sea.
The city is lively throughout the year and its dynamism is recognized. Dives-sur-Mer offers a very rich cultural and associative life in various fields. Several cultural events follow one another and attract a large and diverse audience.
Since 1986, a beautiful love story between the Festival of puppets and animated forms and the city of Dives-sur-Mer has been renewed through the editions of its Festival Récidives. Every year for several days, in July, the Récidives festival takes place in different places in the city. Numerous volunteers, including the inhabitants, are mobilized for its success and contribute to making it an artistic and human adventure, an unmissable cultural and festive event.
In the dynamics of the Festival, the mediation actions carried out for several years, the many residences of companies have stimulated the creation of a National Puppet Center (CNMa – Label Ministry of Culture), the Sablier, bringing together the Festival of Dives -sur-Mer and the Jean Vilar d’Ifs Theater near Caen.
In the fall of 2022, after the rehabilitation of an old factory building, the Belfry, the Sablier will have offices, a workshop for the puppet companies in residence and a 120-seat room equipped with a technical platform.
The building will also house the Intercommunal Music School and the Media Library, thus constituting a real cultural hub at the entrance to Port Guillaume, on the site of a former factory.
