Puppet Friendly City
Liberec is a city in the Czech Republic, located not far from the Polish border. Its location in a valley crossed by the Neisse, surrounded by hills and mountains, makes it an ideal destination, specially for stays turned towards nature.
But this regional capital has a rich historical past and many : many Gothic buildings stand in the city center. Later, in the first half of the 19th century, Liberec became a rich industrial capital and the city also kept buildings and villas from this period, testifying to this exceptionally architectural period.
An economic and cultural crossroads, Liberec has preserved its history as a hospitable city, open to various influences, and naturally proposes numerous artistic activities.
The puppet arts, heirs in the Czech Republic of a strong tradition, have been present since 1949 through the activities of the Naïvni Theater. This great company, recognized for many years as one of the important professional troops of the Czech Republic, is directed by Stanislav Doubrava since the 90s.
While privileging performances for the young audience, the company addresses through certain productions to the adult public. His creations are presented to the public of Liberec in his permanent place. They are also broadcast in the country and abroad.
For more than 20 years, the Naïvni Theater has been hosting a major international festival, Materinka, which presents all the variety of contemporary forms. This festival now occupies an important place in the calendar of international festivals.
