Liberec

Liberec is a city in the Czech Republic, located not far from the Polish border. Its location in a valley crossed by the Neisse, surrounded by hills and mountains, makes it an ideal destination, specially for stays turned towards nature.

But this regional capital has a rich historical past and many : many Gothic buildings stand in the city center. Later, in the first half of the 19th century, Liberec became a rich industrial capital and the city also kept buildings and villas from this period, testifying to this exceptionally architectural period.

An economic and cultural crossroads, Liberec has preserved its history as a hospitable city, open to various influences, and naturally proposes numerous artistic activities.

The puppet arts in Czech Republic has strong and long-lasting tradition. The Naive Theatre Liberec , was established in City of Liberec in 1949. The Naive Theatre belongs with its activities on the top of professional theatres of the Czech Republic for many years. Since the 90ies ,for 30 years was directed by Stanislav Doubrava, who also managed International puppet festival for pre school aged Children named MATEŘINKA. Since January 2021 The new managing directrice is Kateřina Pavlů in tandem with artistic chief Michaela Homolová.

The main production is focused on the young audience, the company addresses through certain productions to the adult public. Its creations are presented to the public of Liberec in his permanent place and in the whole Czech Republic and abroad.

International puppet festival MATEŘINKA has been occupiyng an important place in the calendar of puppetry international festivals and gets regularly important support from City of Liberec.
