Palau-solità i Plegamans is a municipality of 14,911 inhabitants, located 25 km from Barcelona, in Catalonia. It is a village surrounded by the typical landscape of the region with its mosaic of agricultural fields, hills and forests, with a Mediterranean climate.
Palau-solità i Plegamans is known for its important cultural offer and its dynamic and festive proposals: a permanent theatre programme, the existence of theatre groups, screenings of films produced in Catalonia, a children’s film festival “Badalaboca”, a horror film festival “Palau Tremola”, and open-air cultural programmes… It has various cultural facilities: the Casa de la Cultura de la Masía de Can Cortés, the Torre Folch cultural incubator and the L’Alzina municipal library, currently under construction.
It also has a beautiful heritage associated with the history of the town and the legend of the Long Stone: the Templar Commandery of Santa Magdalena, the Romanesque chapel of Sant Genís and the Castle of Plegamans.
Since 2022, puppeteers and puppets have had an important role to play in Palau-solità i Plegamans, with the opening of the Museu Internacional dels Titelles de Catalunya-Teia Moner (MIT). This is the first facility of its kind in our region, housed in the 14th-century Masía de Can Falguera. It was created on the initiative of Teia Moner, a renowned puppeteer and multi-faceted creator. The Cooperativa Cultural Teia Moner SCCL, manages the MIT through a concession granted by the City Council, owner of the building. The puppet arts in our country represent a wealth that must be preserved (cataloguing, interpretation and exhibition) and thus testify to the richness of their visual transposition to the stage.
