Seville

Puppet Friendly City

Ciudad amiga de las Marionetas

This Spanish city with a prestigious past is the economic, political and cultural heart of the province of Seville and the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.
Its heritage testifies that it has always been the center of a network of exchanges and communications. It has more than 700,000 inhabitants.

Its International Puppet Festival celebrated in 2018 its 38th anniversary: it is the oldest cultural activity in the city since the establishment of the Municipal Council. It is also the oldest puppet festival in Spain.
It offers every year in May a wide and varied program with performances in theaters, in the street, parades, exhibitions, workshops, meetings, activities … for families, young people and grown-up.

The festival has had a significant influence on the rise of professional Andalusian puppeteers. Currently, there are about 30 troops in Seville while puppet theater was unknown in this region 40 years ago.

The organization of professional training given by the greatest international masters during the festival contributed to this development for the benefit of the Spanish puppeteers but also those of Latin America.
